WWE Creative Silent on Chris Jericho’s Rumored 2026 Return
Speculation about Chris Jericho making a blockbuster WWE comeback in 2026 has been running wild, but fresh reports suggest that these rumors might be nothing more than hype. Despite talk from fans and dirt sheets, WWE creative sources insist that Jericho’s name has not even been mentioned in internal discussions.
The initial buzz started when the Wrestling Observer Newsletter hinted at the possibility of Jericho finishing up his AEW run in late 2025 and then re-emerging in WWE as a Royal Rumble surprise entrant. According to Dave Meltzer’s report:
“There are those in AEW who believe that he’s not going to be back and will start in WWE as a Royal Rumble surprise.”
This fueled speculation across the wrestling world, with fans immediately imagining how Jericho’s legendary WWE return could play out.
Fightful Report Denies the Buzz
However, Fightful Select quickly countered that claim. Their report emphasized that not only is Jericho’s return not being discussed within WWE creative, but even in AEW, Jericho’s status is kept extremely close to the chest.
Sources noted that Jericho’s creative direction is usually discussed directly with Tony Khan, meaning most AEW talent or staff wouldn’t have a clue about his long-term plans. Similarly, insiders stressed that WWE currently has no movement or planning involving Jericho.
One WWE source put it bluntly:
“Chris Jericho has not been discussed within creative of WWE, and many in the company have no clue if his contract is frozen or ticking.”
The Reality of Jericho’s Contract
Jericho signed a contract extension with AEW back in 2022 that reportedly tied him to the company until the end of 2025. Unless there are hidden clauses—like injury time added or options exercised—it appears unlikely that fans will see him in a WWE ring anytime soon.
This leaves fans wondering: is the dream of one last Jericho run in WWE simply fantasy booking? Or could he pull off one final surprise that even insiders don’t see coming?
Should Jericho End His Career in WWE or AEW?
At 54 by 2026, Jericho is no stranger to reinvention. From Y2J to Le Champion to The Ocho, he has always managed to keep himself relevant. WWE would undoubtedly give him a Hall of Fame sendoff, but AEW has allowed him to reinvent himself creatively in ways WWE may not.
So the question remains: should Jericho go out where it all began, or should he stay loyal to the company that gave him freedom in the later stage of his career?
