Carlito’s WWE Departure Confirmed: Contract Expiring, Final Match, What’s Next?

Carlito’s time in WWE is once again coming to an end, with his contract set to expire soon—and the company opting not to renew it.

According to PWInsider.com, the 46-year-old veteran star will officially part ways with WWE after his current deal runs out. Much like R-Truth’s situation, WWE has decided not to extend Carlito’s tenure, leaving fans both surprised and disappointed.

The Puerto Rican star—famous for his cool persona and signature apple spit—wrapped up his latest WWE run with an appearance at WrestleMania 41 weekend in Las Vegas, where he competed in the 2025 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. That match would end up being his final WWE bout during this stint.

Carlito’s WWE Career: A Legacy of Cool
Carlito, a proud member of Puerto Rico’s legendary Colón wrestling family, originally signed with WWE in 2003. He quickly made a name for himself as the brash, unapologetic heel who didn’t shy away from controversy. Over the years, he racked up impressive accomplishments, including reigns as Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, and even WWE Tag Team Champion alongside his brother Primo.

After his first WWE release in 2010, Carlito remained active on the independent wrestling scene. He made a surprise return during the 2021 Royal Rumble, but it wasn’t until the thunderous crowd reaction at WWE Backlash in Puerto Rico 2023 that WWE decided to bring him back full-time. Carlito was assigned to the Raw roster and even joined The Judgment Day faction, but his TV appearances were sporadic, and he rarely stepped into the ring.

His last WWE match was months ago, and now, with his contract expiring, Carlito is already forging his own path. Just this week, he competed in World Wrestling Council (WWC) Puerto Rico, defeating Ray Gonzalez to win the Puerto Rican Championship—proving he’s still got plenty left in the tank.

What’s Next for Carlito?
For a performer who’s always embraced his independence, this latest WWE exit might just open the door to even more opportunities. Whether it’s more time in WWC, appearances in other promotions, or even another surprise WWE comeback in the future, Carlito’s journey is far from over.
