WWE Reportedly Asked Netflix to Remove MJF From Happy Gilmore 2 Trailer for Monday Night RAW Broadcast
In a surprising move, WWE has reportedly asked Netflix to air a version of the Happy Gilmore 2 trailer without AEW star MJF during Monday Night RAW.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Netflix planned to promote the film during the June 16th episode of RAW, but WWE made it clear they didn’t want MJF included in the ad.
Despite playing Happy Gilmore’s son, Gordie, MJF was completely edited out of the version that aired on WWE programming—clearly a strategic move to avoid showcasing an All Elite Wrestling talent during a WWE broadcast.
“Netflix wanted to promote Happy Gilmore 2 on RAW, but WWE asked for a version of the trailer without MJF,” Meltzer reported. “Even though MJF plays Gilmore’s son, he was not featured in the version that aired.”
MJF isn’t the only wrestling figure in the film. Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella also appear in supporting roles. It’s not confirmed whether they share scenes, but Lynch—being a WWE talent—still made it into the cut that aired.
MJF landed the role after impressing Adam Sandler in auditions. His involvement in the movie has generated considerable excitement across both wrestling and Hollywood circles, especially as Happy Gilmore 2 gears up for its July 25 release.
While some fans support WWE’s move to avoid promoting an AEW talent, others feel it was a missed opportunity to celebrate wrestling’s growing impact in mainstream entertainment.
Do you think WWE made the right call by excluding MJF from the trailer—or should they have let it air as-is? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
