Mariah May’s WWE Signing Shakes Up AEW All In: Texas Main Event Plans

Mariah May’s WWE Signing Shakes Up AEW All In: Texas Main Event Plans

Mariah May’s recent move to WWE has caused a ripple effect in AEW’s biggest upcoming event—All In: Texas.

After wrapping up her storyline with Toni Storm, May decided not to re-sign with AEW. That single decision forced a major shift in AEW’s creative direction, particularly around the AEW Women’s Championship match at All In: Texas.

According to Dave Meltzer (Wrestling Observer Newsletter), people close to Mercedes Moné confirmed she was originally open to losing to Athena, in a plan that would have built a high-stakes rematch at All In. However, things changed.

“Those close to Mercedes Moné say she was willing to lose to Athena to build a rematch at AEW All In: Texas. But once the Toni Storm vs. Moné match was locked in, it made no sense for her to lose and not win the Owen Hart Cup.”

Meltzer added that Mariah May was originally part of AEW’s long-term plans for All In, possibly as a major player in the women’s division’s biggest match of the summer. But once she made the choice to sign with WWE, AEW pivoted.

“The original idea months back still involved Mariah May for All In, but obviously that was changed when May wasn’t going to sign a new deal.”

Final Card: Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Moné

AEW is now moving forward with Toni Storm defending her title against Mercedes Moné—a match that still promises main-event-level hype. Many fans were intrigued by the idea of May vs. Storm as the blow-off to their AEW story, but it’s clear that ship has sailed.

Whether or not fans agree with the change, All In: Texas will now spotlight Storm vs. Moné as one of its biggest matches.

Do you think AEW made the right call by going with Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Moné? Or should Mariah May have stayed in the mix? Let us know in the comments!
