AEW Double or Nothing Beats WWE in Search Interest for First Time Since 2023

AEW Double or Nothing Beats WWE Backlash & Saturday Night’s Main Event in Online Search Buzz

AEW just pulled off a shocking digital victory. According to Dave Meltzer on the May 29 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW Double or Nothing 2025 outperformed both WWE Backlash and Saturday Night’s Main Event in search volume across the web.

This marks AEW’s first major digital win over WWE since All In at Wembley Stadium back in August 2023.

“Double or Nothing actually beat Backlash and Saturday Night’s Main Event,” Meltzer explained. “Not by a huge number — about 11–12% — but it still counts.”

While WWE usually dominates in mainstream and digital attention, Meltzer emphasized how this result stood out:

“The last time AEW was ahead in a month with big shows from both companies was Wembley. That was massive, so to even match that level digitally is surprising.”

The margin may be small, but the impact is significant. AEW had to compete with three major shows in the same weekend — Double or Nothing, WWE Backlash, and a WWE NXT event — and still came out on top in search buzz.

Meltzer was cautious not to overhype the win:

“This doesn’t mean AEW is catching up to WWE overall, but the interest around Double or Nothing was clearly there.”

Despite being the underdog in nearly every metric — ratings, ticket sales, and global brand reach — AEW proved it can still command fan curiosity during big event weekends.

As both promotions gear up for an intense summer, the big question remains:
Was AEW’s win just a fluke, or the beginning of a shift in online engagement?

Do you think AEW can maintain this momentum? Or was it just a one-time win? Let us know in the comments below!
