WWE Reportedly Eyeing Private Party as AEW Contracts Near Expiry

Former AEW World Tag Team Champions Private Party could be headed for a major career shift—and WWE is already watching closely.
The high-flying duo, last seen on AEW TV in January when they dropped their titles to The Hurt Syndicate, have been noticeably absent from programming. But now, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason might not be injury—it’s contract status.
“Private Party’s AEW deals are up very soon,” Meltzer reported, igniting speculation about their future.
Contrary to fan theories, injuries haven’t kept them sidelined. The team even worked an independent event in March, confirming they’ve remained active outside of AEW. Despite once defeating The Young Bucks in a huge 2019 upset, their recent usage suggests AEW may have lost interest.
And WWE might be ready to swoop in.
Fightful Select reported this week that WWE had already expressed interest in Private Party as early as June—before even confirming when their AEW contracts expire.
“We’ve not been told if they’ve been approached either for new contracts or by WWE,” the report clarified.
Whether AEW plans to re-sign them, add injury time to their deals, or let them walk remains unknown. But the timing of WWE’s interest is certainly raising eyebrows.
Private Party’s blend of charisma, athleticism, and crowd appeal could make them a strong fit in WWE’s tag division—especially as the company continues scouting fresh talent from AEW’s ranks.
